For more than 25 years, John has written news briefs and feature stories for this highly-regarded journal of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Wildlife in North Carolina. John is a regular contributor to the monthly publication of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Recent articles have addressed the impact of climate change of the state’s flora and fauna and plans to preserve one million acres of wild land by 2010.

Insight is the quarterly journal of the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research. John has covered such topics as lessons learned from Hurricane Floyd (winner of a 2002 Society of Environmental Journalists Award), impacts of chip mills on sustainable forestry, and charter schools.

Dukenvironment Magazine. This publication of the Nicholas School of the Environment has featured Manuel’s articles on faculty research in stream restoration and coastal pollution.

North Carolina Wildlife Federation Journal. Manuel has been featured in this journal (formerly Friend of Wildlife) since 1992 when he first covered the threat posed by industrial hog farming in North Carolina.
